Fruit cream is a typical summer dessert. It is easy, refreshing, and needs only 4 ingredients; Whipping cream, sour cream or yogurt, sugar, and your choice of fruits. It can be made in 10 minutes and there is no cooking involved.
Food brings back memories, some good ones, and ehhm – some not so good ones. Have you been in a situation where someone has refused to share their recipe?.
I understand if they are making money out of it or that recipe has been in the family for years, but seriously, Hiding a fruit cream recipe!.
It happened to me a few years ago. I went for dinner to a family friend’s place, and then she served a beautiful creamy fruit salad. When a few of us raved about the dessert and asked what the ingredients are, she straightaway refused to give the recipe saying its a secret.
I did not have a blog then and was far away from starting one. Even if I had a blog, I wouldn’t have published a recipe without consent. From that day on, I am a bit reluctant to ask for a recipe unless they mention. 🙂
Fast forward a few months, I had this fruit cream at a friend’s place and told her I could not stop myself from gorging. ‘It’s so easy to make, its just sour cream and heavy cream,’ Jagritee added. 🙂
This fruit cream is one of the easiest desserts you can put together, just like the no-bake pot de creme/no-bake pudding and chocolate mousse. It doesn’t matter if you are making for two or a crowd. Also, this chilled fruit salad with whipping cream is excellent for summer.

What is Fruit Cream?
Fruit cream is a summer dessert made with whipping cream and sour cream or yogurt and fruits.
It is served cold and is perfect for get-togethers, BBQs, or a party because it a breeze to put together.
How to make fruit cream?
As I said, it is one of the easiest recipes.
Whip heavy cream until it is slightly thick. You do not need soft peaks to form.
Add sour cream or yogurt and powdered sugar to the cream and mix gently with a spatula or whisk. Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed.
Add the fruits of your choice.
Garnish with pomegranate or berries if you have handy. Sprinkle some chopped walnuts or your favorite nuts.
I believe walnuts make a great topping on fruit cream.
Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Double or triple the recipe if needed.
What fruits are used in Fruit salad?
Use your favorite fruits. My favorite combinations are grapes, apple, mango, orange, and pomegranate.
I wouldn’t add watermelon because it becomes watery, but other than that, pretty much any fruit should be excellent.
When I am making dessert for a crowd, I like to use the canned tropical fruits with a mix of fresh fruits. I buy a separate can of mandarin oranges.
When we were in the States, I would buy a big can from Costo or Bjs. That way, you don’t have to chop a lot of fruit.
I am not sure where you can find big cans in Dubai.
When I am making a smaller batch, I usually use fresh fruits.
Fruit cream with ice cream
I have had recipes where cut fruits are mixed with softened vanilla ice cream, but I think it doesn’t compare to the taste of heavy cream and whipped cream mixture.
So enjoy your summer fruit salad or summer dessert for your next get-together.
Fruit cream is a typical summer dessert. It is easy, refreshing, and needs only 4 ingredients; Whipping cream, sour cream or yogurt, sugar, and your choice of fruits. It can be made in 10 minutes.
Recipe courtesy: A dear friend Jagritee Sharma.
- 1 cup 8oz(240ml) heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup 8oz(240ml) sour cream or yogurt
- 3-4 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 cups fruits fresh or canned
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
Beat the heavy whipping cream with sugar until slightly thick and before soft peaks form. (Chilling the bowl and the whisk at least 15 minutes before whisking makes the work lot easier)
Add the sour cream to the heavy cream and beat till everything incorporates well. (Taste and adjust the sweetness as needed.)
Fold in the fruits with a spatula and transfer into a serving bowl, sprinkle with chopped walnuts, cover, and refrigerate for an hour or two. (Alternately you can also layer the fruits and the cream)
(optional) Garnish with berries or pomegranate seeds.
I love the canned mandarin oranges with a mix of fresh fruits.
Pineapple, mangoes, pear, grapes, apples, pomegranate are a few of the other options. Some people prefer banana, jello pieces, and marshmallows too.
If you are making a big batch, you get big cans of tropical fruits in syrup at Bjs and similar wholesale stores.
If using canned fruits, drain the fruits from the syrup well before adding to the cream.
