Passion fruit juice | Passion Fruit Syrup is one of the most exotic and refreshing drinks out there. Check out the post to find simple instructions along with images to make passion fruit juice.
During my visit to Kerala last summer, I saw my Dad making passion fruit syrup out of 2 huge baskets of fruits. Nivaan was his little helper. He would walk around with my dad picking fruits from the vines and then assist him with removing the pulp. The best part of all this was he stayed away from his IPad and was truly happy to be involved in the process.
After all that hard work, the best part came when we finally got to have the juice and kill the summer heat. We are a family of passion fruit juice lovers and when it’s homemade with fruits from your garden, it’s all the way merrier.

What is passion fruit?
Passion fruit is a fruit that has a tough rind but the inside is juicy and filled with seeds. It is mainly used as a topping for desserts and flavoring drinks.
Where does passion fruit grow?
Passion fruit grows in abundance in tropical places. It’s a vine which gives full of fruits during the season. I have seen my share of these beauties at our home in Kerala. Good soil, rainfall, and plenty of sunshine act as a safe haven for these beauties.
Every year when the fruits are in abundance, my parent preserve it by making passion fruit syrup. They store it in the refrigerator for a couple of months. It is ideal for the coming summer months.
Passion fruit also comes from South America and Australia.
What does passion fruit taste like?
The fruit itself is very tart but with the right amount of sweetness, it tastes excellent. Some people like to have it without any sugar. My kids scoop the fresh out with the spoon and have it without adding any sweetness. Although I have no idea how they do that.
Apart from the exotic flavor, it pairs well with any flavor it is added too. That is the main reason it is so popular for cocktails and virgin mocktails.
What are the different varieties of passion fruit?
- Purple passion fruit: I used purple ones for this recipe because it is easily available in Dubai during the season.
- Yellow passion fruit: This is what I have seen in Kerala and what my parents use
- There are other varieties too but I haven’t seen them yet.

This fruit is a powerhouse of nutrients and has some amazing health benefits.
It’s known to boost immunity, increase digestion and is an excellent source of vitamin C.
